I spent a lot of time trying to figure this out and reading this forum before posting this.

I have a new installation. LAMP, all working properly.

I go through the installation steps correctly. Get to the login screen.

admin
passwd

no go. Nothing wierd in config.php, nothing odd in sql. all standard defaults, but still no go.

did the "update users set user_password = md5('passwd') where user_username = 'admin';" routine, and still no go.

I'm installing this at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater to track our implementation of CMS throughout the uww.edu domain.

Default New Install: admin/passwd not working

I assume you get a WSOD.
Did you uncomment the error reporting at the beginning if index.php?
Would also help if you could post the version of DP you running and your server setup

No WSOD, just a recycle to login, with the "login failed" below the login form.

DP version is latest: 1.0.2-1

tried uncommenting, no different result.

Now I get:

Code:
Warning: session_write_close(): Your script possibly relies on a session side-effect which existed until PHP 4.2.3. Please be advised that the session extension does not consider global variables as a source of data, unless register_globals is enabled. You can disable this functionality and this warning by setting session.bug_compat_42 or session.bug_compat_warn to off, respectively. in /var/www/html/dotproject/classes/ui.class.php on line 369

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /var/www/html/dotproject/classes/ui.class.php:369) in /var/www/html/dotproject/classes/ui.class.php on line 382
Anyone have an idea what's going on???

I have deleted completely the install, and reinstalled, and get the same result.

u: admin
p: passwd

does not work.
I am thinking it cannot be dotproject giving me the trouble, but more likely the database, or php? can't be apache as far as I know.

getting desperate here. I want this to work before we have to settle for egroupware or something...

Have you run the checks in docs/check.php? Also, do you know if you have cookies enabled?

You haven't mentioned versions of anything. What versions of PHP/MySql/Apache are you running? Also have you run phpinfo to see what level of support there is for your version of MySQL. E.g. PHP is usually shipped with Mysql 3.23.x support, and if you are running MySQL 4.x you may find odd behaviour.
